Foreign investors net sell Vietnam stocks for five straight sessions

Foreign investors were net sellers on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) for the fifth consecutive session to the tune of over VND440 billion ($18.58 million) on Wednesday.

They mainly net sold STB of Sacombank, DGC of Duc Giang Chemicals, and VRE of Vincom Retail.

The VN-Index, which represents the HoSE, gained for the fourth session in a row, earning 2.43 points, or 0.21%, to close at 1,154.2.

The major bourse saw 191 tickers gaining and 223 losing. Its trading value dropped over 13% from the previous session to VND16.7 trillion ($705.2 million), with more than 788 million shares changing hands.

The VN30 index, which tracks the performance of 30 largest cap stocks, inched down 0.13 points to 1,146.54, with 15 losers and 14 gainers. Banking stocks closed in the red, with LPB of LienVietPostBank down 3.1%; NVB of National Citizen Bank 2.7%; CTG of VietinBank, VIB of Vietnam International Bank, and VPB of VPBank over 1%.

This group had seven representatives in the top 10 stocks with the most negative impact on the market.

Despite losing 0.7%, STB of Sacombank recorded the largest trading value on the HoSE with nearly VND950 billion ($40.1 million).

Besides banking tickers, stocks in the steel and securities groups with large liquidity also showed poor performance. HPG of steel giant Hoa Phat fell 1.1%. VND of VNDirect Securities 1.7%, HCM of Ho Chi Minh City Securities 1.32%, and VIX of VIX Securities 1.3%.

Meanwhile, the three stocks of the Vingroup family were the main support for the market expansion as they were named in the top five codes with the most positive index on the main index. Closing the session, VHM of Vinhomes, VIC of Vingroup, and VRE of Vincom Retail gained 2.23%, 1.18% and 2.93% respectively.

Other gainers included PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Corporation 3.8%, HHV of Deo Ca Traffic Infrastructure Investment JSC 2.58%, HDC of Ba Ria-Vung Tau House Development JSC 1.04%, and DPG of Dat Phuong Group 1.15%.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse inched down 0.34 points to 228.88, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market gained 0.09 points to 85.91.
