Previously, the Central Steering Committee on Anti-corruption determined that there were signs of violations at the Foreign Ministry related to the repatriation flights that brought Vietnamese citizens home from overseas amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Regarding the above-mentioned violations, there was cupability at the Goverment Office and the Ministry of Public Security's immigration department, the committee stated.

Mai Tien Dung, 64, comes from Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province. He was formally chairman of the Ha Nam People's Committee and secretary of the northern province's Party Committee.

Dung was chairman of the Government Office from April 2016 to April 2021 before he retired. He was a Party Central Committee member for two consecutive terms.
