Former Vietnam Politburo member Tran Tuan Anh released from parliament
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Monday decided to accept the resignation of Tran Tuan Anh, a parliament member.
Anh submitted his application to step down from the position on January 30.
The Party Central Committee last Wednesday agreed to release Tran Tuan Anh from his positions as Politburo and Party Central Committee member and head of the Central Economic Commission for allowing multiple violations to occur at the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) during 2016-2021 when he served as minister.
Anh was a high-ranking Party and State official and entrusted with important leadership positions by the Party Central Committee and Politburo. As chief of the MoIT's Party Committee and Minister in the 2016-2021 tenure, he "exerted efforts to lead and direct the industry and trade sectors to obtain significant results".
However, he bore the political responsibility of a leader for letting multiple wrongdoings occur at the ministry, and allowing many officials and Party members to break the law. These people have consequently been subject to criminal punishments and Party and administrative disciplinary measures.
Tran Tuan Anh, born in 1964, has a doctorate in economics and a bachelor's degree in diplomacy. He is a member of the 12th and 13th Party Central Committee, member of the 13th Politburo, and member of the 14th National Assembly.
He spent six years as deputy trade minister cum deputy head of the Central Economic Commission. He was trade minister for five years, from April 2016, and was appointed head of the Central Economic Commission from February 2021.
