Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn will manufacture Nintendo Switch gaming consoles in the northern province of Quang Ninh as part of a $263.7 million investment.

Foxconn received an investment registration certificate for the project earlier this month.

The project will cover 21.5 hectares at Song Khoai Industrial Park, also known as Amata City Ha Long, invested by Thailand’s top developer Amata.

Foxconn Singapore PTE LTD, a subsidiary of Foxconn, will be the investor; and its subsidiary, Foxconn EV Energy & Component (Vietnam) Co., Ltd., will implement it.

The project aims at an annual output of 4.18 million items totaling 4,335.3 tons. This includes four million Nintendo Switch gaming console sets (4,180 tons), 30,000 air sensors for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), 30,000 UAV controllers, 60,000 UAV engine modules, and 60,000 UAV signaling and lighting systems.

Foxconn plans to construct the facility from January 2025-June 2026, install equipment in July-September 2026, start trial production in October-December 2026 and start official production from January 2027.

So far, Foxconn’s five investments in Quang Ninh province have reached $1 billion. The first $137 million went to building facilities at Dong Mai Industrial Park. In 2023, it received investment registration certificates for two more projects worth $246 million.

Brand Cheng, chairman and CEO of Foxconn, informed Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh last month that the Taiwan-headquartered firm had invested around $4 billion in five Vietnamese provinces, employing 80,000 people.

The company recorded a total operating income of $6.7 billion from its Vietnamese affiliates in 2023.
