Google to invest $2 bln in building data center in Malaysia: government
The Malaysian government has announced that Google will invest $2 billion in the country to build its first data center there.
According to the government, Google’s investment will create 26,500 jobs across various sectors in Malaysia including healthcare, education, and finance.
Google announced the investment a few days after Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he targeted at least $107 billion in investments in the semiconductor industry.
Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Google and its parent firm Alphabet said Google's first data center and Google Cloud region is its largest planned investment so far in Malaysia.
Malaysian Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the investment will significantly advance Malaysia's digital ambitions outlined in a 2030 master plan.
