Hanoi firm plans green hydrogen-ammonia plant in Phu Yen province
Hanoi-based Minh Thach D&L Green Hydrogen JSC has proposed the establishment of a green hydrogen-ammonia plant at the South Phu Yen Economic Zone in the south-central province of Phu Yen.
The proposal was made at a recent working session that the company’s representatives held with Phu Yen Vice Chairwoman Ho Thi Nguyen Thao.
The plant is expected to produce about 45,000-55,000 tons of hydrogen and 250,000-300,000 tons of ammonia per year, the company said.
The project will use alkaline water electrolysis technology and Topsoe ammonia synthesis technology. It will cover about 20 hectares at the Hoa Tam Industrial Park and use Bai Goc port’s facilities to store and export liquid ammonia.
The plant’s products will be exported to China, South Korea, and Japan in the first phase and serve the domestic market in the second.
The project will contribute to renewable energy development, reduction of CO2 emissions and combating climate change, towards sustainable development; enhancing national energy security; developing local economy, and increasing local budget revenue, it said.
Appreciating the proposal, the provincial official asked the investor to clarify the project implementation progress and prove its financial capacity.
She assigned relevant agencies to consider the investor’s recommendations, ensuring the project's compliance with the national power development plan, the province's master plan and land use plans, while avoiding conflicts of interests among relevant parties.
At a conference announcing the provincial master plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision until 2050, on March 3, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha acknowledged that Phu Yen gathers all conditions to pioneer in transforming the growth model towards a green and sustainable one in accordance with global trends.
It needs to become one of the blue economy centers with dynamic service, tourism and industrial sectors associated with a green energy ecosystem, he added.
Ha noted that with huge potential for renewable energy (wind power, solar power, new forms of hydrogen energy and green ammonia), Phu Yen needed “breakthrough thinking and solutions” in attracting investment in the fields of metallurgy, oil refining, petrochemicals and shipping.
It should also focus on developing logistics services associated with Tuy Hoa airport, Vung Ro port, Bai Goc deep-water port, and Dong Hoa inland container deport (ICD), in connection with large urban areas and industrial parks, he said.
