The VN-Index, which tracks the HoSE performance, dropped 2.27 points or 0.22% to 1,020.34, with more than 544 million shares changing hands. The major bourse saw 231 losers and 154 gainers.

The VN30-Index, which reflects the performance of 30 largest-cap stocks, fell 4.21 points or 0.41% to 1,034.13.

While VIC of Vingroup, VHM of Vinhomes, HDB of HDBank, STB of Sacombank, CTG of Vietinbank, POW of PV Power, PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Corp, and FRT of FPT Retail supported the market, SSI of Saigon Securities, HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat, and NVL of Novoland Group had negative impacts.

The red color covered almost all groups, including banking, securities, steel, real estate, retail, food production, and chemical.

On the other side, electricity, oil and gas stocks showed their good performance, thus preventing the market from falling further.

Foreign investors turned net buyers to the tune of more than VND229 billion ($9.71 million) on the HoSE, after one session of net selling. They mainly net purchased HPG, VHM, STB, PVD of PV Drilling; while net selling SAB of brewer Sabeco, PDR, VRE of Vincom Retail, and BCM of BECAMEX IDC Corp.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse went down 0.49 points to 205.30, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market rose 0.18 points to 71.01.
