HCMC bourse trading value hits 7-month high
Trading value on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) hit VND21.83 trillion ($891 million) on Thursday, a record high in seven months.
The VN-Index, which tracks the performance of the HoSE, closed the first trading session in December at 1,036.28, down 12.14 points or 1.16%, ending its five-session gaining streak. The major bourse saw 281 gainers and 166 losers.

Many blue chips in the VN30 basket like SSI of Saigon Securities, VIC of Vingroup, BID of BIDV bank, and CTG of VietinBank recorded a reversal in the afternoon, declining 5.55%, 5.2%, 5.1%, and 4%, respectively.
Among the gainers, PDR of Phat Dat Real Estate Development Corp. continued to hit its ceiling price with nearly 42 million shares changing hands for more than VND612.5 billion ($24.99 million). Meanwhile, NVL of Novaland Group closed at the reference level from the ceiling price recorded in the morning.
TCB of Techcombank expanded 5.8%, marking its seven-session gaining streak, followed by PLX of Petrolimex with an increase of 5.1%, GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group 4.2% and HDB of HDBank 2.6%.
The real estate group showed the best performance with many stocks hitting their ceiling prices, including PDR, CEO of CEO Group, DIG of DIG Copr, HQC of Hoang Quan Corp, and DXG of Dat Xanh Group.
The green color also covered many other groups like steel, cement, seaport, seafood, coal, garment, construction, and aviation.
Meanwhile, the banking and securities groups saw many large-cap stocks losing, negatively impacting the benchmark index.
Foreign investors remained net buyers to the tune of VND1,016 billion ($41.45 million) on the HoSE. They mainly net purchased VHM of Vinhomes, STB of Sacombank, HPG of steel giant Hoa Phat and VIC, while net selling DXG, CTG and GAS of PV Gas.
The HNX-Index on the Hanoi bourse increased by 2.21 points or 1.06% to 211, while the UpCOM-Index on the unlisted public company market was up 0.54 points or 0.76% to 71.41.
