France's HDF Energy has proposed deploying model projects of hydrogen-integrated renewable energy on Vietnamese islands, such as Phu Quy in Binh Thuan province and Phu Quoc, Nam Du and An Son in Kien Giang province.

The group raised its proposal in a meeting between Nguyen Anh Tuan, general director of state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and Mathieu Geze, director of Asia-Pacific at HDF Energy, on Monday.

The dialogue aimed to discuss the potential for cooperation in developing hydrogen-integrated renewable power projects in Vietnam, especially on islands with difficulties in electricity infrastructure.

Geze said HDF Energy wants to deploy model projects of hydrogen-integrated renewable power on islands such as Phu Quy in the south-central province of Binh Thuan and Phu Quoc, Nam Du and An Son in the southern province of Kien Giang.

The goal is providing stable, round-the-clock and clean electricity which helps to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, contributing to realizing Vietnam's commitment to cut carbon emissions.

In response, Tuan said he welcomes HDF Energy's cooperation initiative and highly values the applicability of its model to Vietnam's island power systems.

"EVN is ready to support HDF in connecting with professional units in the sector to evaluate the technical and economic efficiency of the model in detail," he noted.

Tuan asked HDF to closely coordinate with related Vietnamese parties and provide full professional information to ensure compliance with legal regulations and the goal of sustainable development of the energy sector.

The two sides agreed to continue maintaining a channel of exchange and coordination in studying the possibility of deploying the model in some suitable localities.

HDF Energy is a leading global player in the hydrogen industry, dedicated to developing large-scale hydrogen infrastructure and advanced multi-megawatt fuel cell technology. The group is currently developing a portfolio of projects valued at over €5 billion.

It has regional offices in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2021, the group has been listed on the Euronext Paris stock market.

HDF Energy's Renewstable® multi-MW facilities solution integrates intermittent renewable energy sources with substantial on-site energy storage in the form of green hydrogen.

"This innovative approach ensures the continuous generation of green, baseload power 24/7, or peak shaving while guaranteeing optimal capacity," the company stated.
