Heineken Vietnam Brewery Limited Company (Heineken Vietnam) plans to start construction of a $540-million factory expansion project in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province late this year to increase annual output by 500 million liters.

500 million liters a year is more than twice the annual output of the Heineken factory in Quang Nam province at 220 million liters. Earlier this week, Heineken Vietnam announced it had suspended operations at the Quang Nam factory from June 12 due to multiple challenges in the local market.

Regarding the expansion in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, Heineken received the investment certificate in June 2023.

According to the brewer’s latest updates, the firm aims to complete administrative procedures in June-October 2024, start construction of offices and other facilities in November 2024-January 2025, and install production lines in February-March 2025.

The brewer targets to run trial production in April-July 2025, trial implementation of environmental protection activities in July-September 2025, then official operation from October 2025.

Heineken’s Ba Ria-Vung Tau factory covers 41.4 hectares in My Xuan A Industrial Park, and the expansion is set to take place within the factory, having no impacts on nearby facilities in the industrial park.

With the latest enlargement, the plant can reach an annual capacity of 1,600 million liters (16 million hectoliters). The figure was 110 million liters in 2018, then scaled up to 610 million liters in 2019 and 1,100 million liters in 2022.

The latest figure includes 1,525 million liters of beer, 25 million liters of fermented fruit juice, and 50 million liters of malt drink.
