Hitachi Energy inaugurates transformers factory in Vietnam

Hitachi Energy has inaugurated a transformers factory in Bac Ninh province, northern Vietnam as the Southeast Asian country proceeds on its carbon neutral path.

The factory, which specializes in liquid-filled power and distribution transformers, is set to nearly double the previous factory's annual capacity, the firm said in a release, without giving specific numbers.

The factory will produce distribution transformers with TVP® (Transient Voltage Protection) Technology. This solution “significantly enhances the reliability of distribution transformers, offering complete protection against transient voltages in multiple applications like data centers, solar, and wind renewable generation,” said the release.

This investment aligns with the company’s global capacity expansion plan to meet the accelerating energy transition demand. “The Bac Ninh factory will help us in advancing the world’s energy system to become more sustainable, flexible and secure,” said Bruno Melles, managing director at Business Unit Transformers, Hitachi Energy.

“Vietnam’s Power Development Plan sets clear pathways for a carbon neutral energy system by 2050, including strengthening its position as a leading manufacturing base in the region,” said Chandan Singh, country managing director for Vietnam, Hitachi Energy.

The Bac Ninh Transformers factory currently employs more than 500 people.
