Dutch firm Damen has ordered six more commissioning service operation vessels (CSOV) from Quang Ninh province-based Ha Long Shipbuilding Company to serve offshore wind farms.

Both sides signed a contract on Thursday for the vessels priced at EUR10 million ($10.9 million) each.

The latest contract follows two signed by both firms in 2022 and 2023 for eight CSOVs.

As such, the Vietnamese firm will build a total of 14 CSOVs for Damen, acting CEO Tran Manh Ha said at the signing ceremony.

Each ship will be 88.6 meters long, 19.7 meters wide, 8 meters high, and have a gross tonnage of 6,700.

Building of the first of six vessels in the latest order is set to begin in January 2025 for delivery in November 2026. A ship is to be delivered every three months thereafter.

At Thursday’s contract signing, both firms also held a steel cutting ceremony for the seventh of eight CSOVs ordered previously.

Damen said some of the ships will be delivered to Windcat, a leading European offshore personnel transfer company with a fleet of 55 vessels.

The CSOV will be equipped with dual fuel hydrogen technology, which can not only help reduce carbon emissions substantially but also make Windcat a leader in the use of sustainable fuels.
