Hue to launch ancient town's first international kite festival

The 2023 International Kite Festival will take place in central Vietnam's Imperial Citadel of Hue from June 3-9.

The highlight of the festival will be kite shows from June 4 to 8 at Ngo Mon Square and Thuan An Beach, according to the Hue Festival Center.

A space for children to create their own kites will also feature at the show.

The festival will draw clubs from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, and domestic clubs including the Golden Kite Restaurant Club (Nam Dinh province), and the Phoenix Art Kite Club and Huong Duong Kite Club (HCMC).

The 2023 International Kite Festival aims to promote and preserve the art of kite-making and flying; and at the same time form and develop a new culture, art and tourism festival in Thua Thien-Hue province.

Huynh Tien Dat, director of the Hue Festival Center, said it will be the first time kite clubs from Southeast Asian countries converge in Hue to participate in the festival, which previously only welcomed domestic clubs. It will also provide an opportunity to attract visitors and create a playground and opportunities to share, learn and experience for those who love the art of the air.

In September 2022, the Vietnam Tourism Hanoi JSC launched a double-decker sightseeing service with 12 stops at famous tourism spots in the former imperial capital of Hue. The “City Sightseeing Hue" service has 54 seats that allow passengers a ringside view of the town’s attractions.

On April 22, Hue officially opened a nighttime street zone around the Imperial Citadel, a UNESCO heritage site.
