The station, located in Binh Son commune, Long Thanh district, has 16 officers under the Long Thanh district police and started operating on Thursday.
The personnel are divided into four groups: general affairs, crime prevention and fight, order, and security.
Major general Nguyen Sy Quang, director of the Dong Nai police department, said that the situation of security, order and traffic safety at the Long Thanh airport construction site is expected to be “very complicated” in the coming time.
"The police station will help the Dong Nai police proactively and promptly handle security and order situations as they arise," he added.
Covering more than 5,580 hectares, Long Thanh International Airport will spread across six communes in Long Thanh district.
Construction of the airport will happen in three phases. In the first one, set for completion in 2025, a runway and a passenger terminal, along with other supporting facilities will serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.
The airport, about 40 kilometers from downtown HCMC, is expected to relieve overloading at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC. Once all three phases are fully completed by 2050, it will be able to handle 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo annually.
