Maritime major VIMC reports $133 mln profit in 2022
Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), the country's leading maritime service provider, gained a consolidated profit of VND3,129 billion ($133.3 million) in 2022, down 14% year-on-year and exceeding its plan by 24%.
VIMC's consolidated revenue is estimated at VND15,041 billion ($640.9 million), up 5% year-on-year and exceeding the year target by 20%, corporation leaders said at a conference to deploy missions for 2023 on Friday.
The parent company recorded a revenue of VND2,339 billion ($99.66 million), up 28% year-on-year, with profit estimated at VND682 billion ($29 million), 1.9 times higher than 2021.
In 2022, VIMC's total shipping volume is estimated at 21.8 million tons, reaching 113% of the year plan; cargo throughput through ports is 124 million tons, fulfilling 93% of the plan, while container throughput is 5.8 million TEUs, or 97% of the plan.
VIMC's total profit in shipping is estimated at VND1,869 billion ($79.64 million), up 74% year-on-year and exceeding its plan by 44%.
Some shipping companies with outstanding business results include Vosco with a profit of VND659 billion ($28 million), up 30% year-on-year, VIMC Shipping ($17.7 million, up 146%), and Vinaship ($13.59 million, up 76%).
VIMC said that some units achieved good results in financial restructuring like Bisco and Vitranschart.
With the increasing growth rate of import and export goods volume, the potential for developing Vietnam's international shipping fleet is huge, corporate leaders said.
VIMC forecast that the world economic environment in 2023 would have many unfavorable developments, greatly affecting the global maritime industry.
The corporation aims to achieve a shipping volume of about 17.7 million tons; seaport volume of 134.7 million tons; consolidated revenue of VND13,354 billion ($569 million) and pre-tax profit of VND2,330 billion ($99.28 million).
