Mekong Delta province Long An plans $3 bln urban complex project

The Department of Planning and Investment (DPI) in the Mekong Delta province of Long An has called for investment in a VND74 trillion ($3 billion) new urban area project in Duc Hoa district.

The super new urban area is expected to cover about 930.8 hectares in Tan My commune, with a population of nearly 81,000.

Once completed, the project will provide more than 13,000 townhouses and villas, more than 7,000 social housing units, nearly 7,300 apartments, and nearly 400 low-rise houses for resettlement.

According to the DPI, to be developed under a new, smart and ecological urban model, the project’s goal is to concretize the socio-economic development goals of Long An province and Duc Hoa district and form a large-scale new urban development area with signature works to create major changes in architectural space and landscape.

It will help promote socio-economic development in the northern region of Long An province and the northwest region of Ho Chi Minh City, as well as create a comfortable, modern and nature-friendly urban area that can compete with other localities in the region and the country in terms of leisure, trade and service value.

The 50-year project is scheduled to be implemented over seven years from the date of investor approval.

The plan for the project was approved by the provincial People's Committee in early July 2022. Accordingly, it will be divided into three functional subdivisions.

The southern gateway urban area (Zone A) will span 111.37 hectares in the southern gateway area of the Mekong Delta region, bordering Provincial Road 825. It is set to become a high-density urban area, with modern public and service complexes and themed park clusters as the core for housing areas.

The central urban - ecological urban area (Zone B) is located in the central area of the Tan My new urban area, from the eastern boundary to the banks of Chinh Duc Hoa canal with an area of about 641.22 hectares.

The southeast new urban area (Zone C) will cover 178.31 hectares.
