The south-central province of Khanh Hoa is in need of VND320 trillion ($13 billion) to develop infrastructure for the Cam Lam new urban area by 2045.
According to a freshly approved plan, the area will cover 54,719 hectares, or the whole Cam Lam district, excluding Thuy Trieu lagoon.
Khanh Hoa plans to develop Cam Lam into a growth pole in the south of the province and Vietnam's south-central region, helping turn the province into a centrally-managed city.
The area will be built into a modern, world-class ecological airport urban area; a key global hub of marine tourism and logistics services, financial-intellectual services and innovation; an international center for education, health, research and application of new technology; and an urban area with a high quality living environment and synchronous and modern infrastructure.
Following a national smart, innovative urban model, it will become a national entertainment and leisure tourism center and a nucleus of tourism development in the region and the world.
It is also intended to be a sustainable urban development premise for developing environmentally friendly green and ecological technology that adapts to climate change.
This urban area is expected to have a population of about 320,000 by 2030 and 770,000 by 2045.
The Cam Lam new urban area will be developed under the model of a concentrated urban area in the delta region, focusing on promoting tourism in the eastern coastal strip associated with preserving the endemic landscape of Thuy Trieu lagoon - Cam Ranh bay, Bai Dai beach and the ecological values of the mountains and forests in the northern and western parts.
There will be four driving axes. The North-South Expressway corridor will link Cam Ranh port and Cam Ranh airport with national infrastructure, focusing on developing transit hubs, warehousing services, and multi-modal smart transport services.
The Bai Dai coastal axis will run from Cam Ranh airport to Nha Trang town, focusing on developing island entertainment and tourism services. The urban center axis, from the urban gateway to the center of Bai Dai area, will concentrate on key functions at regional and urban levels.
Finally, the water landscape axis will link Cam Ranh bay, through Thuy Trieu lagoon to Truong river, Cau stream and Cat stream. The focus is on protecting water sources, sustainably maintaining the structure of the hydrological system, developing biodiversity and an attractive green landscape with indigenous characteristics, and the "yacht urban" model.
In the master plan, there will be four new central areas, including a regional-level integrated central area, the eastern tourist central area, the northern urban center area, and the southern urban center area.
