Ho Chi Minh City authorities plan to start expanding and upgrading roads around the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in the fourth quarter.

Ho Chi Minh City authorities plan to start expanding and upgrading roads around the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in the fourth quarter.

The roads will facilitate access to the airport's new, third terminal (T3), that will begin construction in the third quarter.

In November, the city’s Department of Transport will begin work on a four-kilometer extension to the Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa streets that link with T3, helping easy the heavy traffic congestion that the area is prone to at present.

The department also plans to expand Hoang Hoa Tham street, starting this September; and complete the work in six months.

At present, site clearance and design work are under way for upgrading and expanding Truong Chinh and Tan Ky Tan Quy streets. For the expansion of Tan Son street next to the airport, procedures are being fulfilled to transfer land for the project from the military.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had last Saturday asked the Ministry of Transport to ensure that construction of the T3 terminal begins in the third quarter.

The project must be implemented at the highest speed possible and completed by September 2024 at the latest, the PM stressed at a meeting held with relevant authorities to discuss solutions to the overload being experienced by the Tan Son Nhat airport for several years now.
