Ninh Binh-Hai Phong expressway construction must begin this year: Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh said Tuesday that construction of the Ninh Binh-Hai Phong expressway should start this year.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh said Tuesday that construction of the Ninh Binh-Hai Phong expressway should start this year.

The six-lane 79km expressway will run through the northern provinces of Ninh Binh (18 km), Thai Binh (32.7 km) and Nam Dinh (28.7 km) before reaching Hai Phong City.

“The expressway is of great significance as it will be a corridor connecting cities and provinces to airports and seaports, creating momentum for the development of southern Hanoi, the Red River Delta and the north-central region as a whole,” he told local authorities.

The project is expected to be implemented as a public-private partnership (PPP).

The Thai Binh People’s Committee, which is the state agency managing the project, noted that project will abide by the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s request to avoid urban areas and crowded zones to reduce site clearance costs.

Earlier this month, the Prime Minister had asked the four northern localities to study investment in the Ninh Binh-Hai Phong Expressway as a PPP project due to state budget constraints.
