At a working session on Thursday, provincial authorities said its seaports, airport, industrial parks, and economic zones are all connected to the national expressway, including 176 kilometers running through the province. Besides, all seaport and logistics projects have been included in the provincial plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

The proposed Van Ninh port, with investment of VND2.25 trillion ($95.88 million), will feature a 500-meter wharf to accommodate two 20,000-deadweight-tonnage (DWT) ships or three 10,000 DWT vessels at once. The ongoing first phase of the project is expected to be completed on April 30, 2024.

Van Ninh will play a key role in Quang Ninh’s socioeconomic development and could transform Mong Cai town into a transportation and logistics hub for the Red River Delta and Vietnam, according to Saigon Newport.

Founded in 1989, Saigon Newport now provides port services related to logistics, loading and unloading of goods, construction, transportation, and others. The firm's handling of export-import containers accounts for 90% of the southern region's figure and 60% of the country's.

The business has yet to open any facilities in Quang Ninh, and its closest one to the province is the Tan Cang-Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT) in the neighboring city of Hai Phong.

Vietnam handled 28.21 million tons of goods via sea transport and 118.78 million tons via inland waterway transport in the first quarter of this year, up 20.2% and 40.1% year-on-year, respectively, according to the General Statistics Office.

Quang Ninh’s figures were 12.8 million tons and 13.9 million tons, up 26.3% and 27.2%, respectively, local data shows.
