Renewable energy in the first two months of the year accounts for 16.8% of Vietnam’s electricity output, which rose over 6.1% year-on-year to 39.59 billion kWh.

The output of wind power, solar power and biomass power hit 6.65 billion kWh in the period, of which solar power was 4.33 billion kWh and wind power 2.21 billion kWh, according to the state-run Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Of the total, the majority came from coal-fired power, 17.27 billion kWh or 43.6%. Next was hydropower with 10.85 billion kWh, accounting for 27.4%.

Gas-fired turbines generated 4.38 billion kWh or 11.1%, and the figures for imported power were 318 million kWh and 0.8%.

In the first two months of 2022, the electricity produced by EVN and the Power Generation Corporations, including joint stock companies, reached 15.86 billion kWh, making for 40.06% of the electricity production of the whole system.

Power transmission output reached 29.75 billion kWh, up 3.3% over the same period last year.

Commercial electricity output of EVN was estimated at 35.90 billion kWh, up 6.84% year-on-year.
