Vietnam's central city of Danang has announced plans to build an airport zone around the city's international airport that will include a residential area, green spaces, a tunnel under the airport, and pedestrian overpasses.
The zone will cover 1,326 hectares, including parts of Hai Chau, Thanh Khe and Cam Le districts, and its population is expected to reach about 77,000 by 2030, including 70,000 permanent residents.
A land fund for social infrastructure and green spaces in residential areas will gradually increase to approach the criteria of a new development area.
Under the plan, more trees will be planted around educational establishments, headquarters and public administrative buildings, hospitals and museums.
The zone will also include an international terminal and sports and fitness facilities to the south of the airport, parks along Phan Lang canal combined with the Thanh Khe sports center and the Cam Le lake parks.
The plan will feature four projects, including the Danang International Airport and those to renovate old residential areas, the 20-hectare northern residential area, and the southern area of the airport (Cam Le district).
There will be three educational, one medical, and two cultural and sports projects, along with two parks.
Regarding technical infrastructure, the zone will have a tunnel through the airport; and overpasses over the Nguyen Van Linh-Nguyen Tri Phuong, Cach Mang Thang Tam-Nguyen Huu Tho, and Le Trong Tan-Truong Chinh intersections, as well as pedestrian bridges.
Danang will invest in surface and underground parking lots, mass rapid transit (MRT) and light rail transit (LRT) lines, and depots.
A drainage project from Xuan Hoa A lake to Danang bay will be built in combination with upgrading canals in existing residential areas and areas prone to flooding.
