A ground-breaking ceremony was held on Thursday for the construction of Lai Xuan Bridge, which will connect Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province - two economic hubs in northern Vietnam.

The 786m-long, 12m-wide bridge, crossing the Da Bach River, will replace the Lai Xuan ferry service linking Hai Phong’s Thuy Nguyen district and Quang Ninh’s Dong Trieu township.

In addition, Hai Phong will upgrade and expand provincial Road 352 by 14 kilometers with a width of 12 meters, starting from National Highway 10 and ending at Lai Xuan Bridge.

The projects have a combined investment capital of over VND1,335 billion ($56.93 million), with VND1.32 trillion sourced from Hai Phong’s budget and the rest from Quang Ninh.

Once completed in December 2024, they will facilitate inter-region connections, meet transportation needs between industrial zones, and gradually improve the transport network in the northern economic region.

In May 2022, the Hai Phong People's Committee started construction of Ben Rung Bridge across the Bach Dang River, linking Quang Yen township and Thuy Nguyen district.

In addition to the two bridges under construction, Hai Phong city and Quang Ninh province are connected by Da Bac Bridge on National Highway 10 and Bach Dang Bridge on the Hanoi-Hai Phong-Ha Long Expressway.
