Ninh Binh authorities have proposed a VND8.45 trillion ($358.43 million) investment to construct a four-lane, 25km expressway connecting Ninh Binh with Nam Dinh in northern Vietnam.

Designed for speeds of up to 120 km/h, the expressway's starting point would be at the intersection of Ninh Binh province's Mai Son town and the North-South Expressway.

It will run to Tam Hoa Bridge in Ninh Binh's Yen Khanh district across the Day River to Nam Dinh province.

The proposed expressway would have a width of 15 meters.

The Ninh Binh People's Committee said the project would be constructed using public investment.

If approved, Ninh Binh province will complete an investment dossier and procedures to commence construction in 2024 and complete the project in 2026.

After construction, the expressway from Ninh Binh to Nam Dinh will connect to the soon-to-be-completed Mai Son-National Highway 45 Expressway, relieving traffic congestion on the Cao Bo-Mai Son route.

This expressway will also connect the entire eastern area of Ninh Binh province and Nga Son district in Thanh Hoa province.

The Ninh Binh-Nam Dinh expressway is a component of the Ninh Binh-Hai Phong Expressway which passes through Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh and Hai Phong, and is part of the country's expressway network plan.

This expressway is 80 km long, divided into two projects: the section through Ninh Binh province and the section through Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces, and has an investment of more than VND22.1 trillion ($937.43 million).
