Pegatron to quadruple workforce at $800 mln project in Vietnam
Pegatron Vietnam, a subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Pegatron Corporation, is set to soon quadruple the company's workforce for its $800-million project in Vietnam.
Pegatron utilized 3,000 workers at its project in Vietnam’s northern coastal city of Hai Phong in 2023.
According to a recent report, the firm is seeking to update its environmental certificate in a bid to expand its capacity. The growth can lead to employment of 12,000 people.
In 2023, the project reached an annual capacity of 12.35 million items, equivalent to 8,767 tons. According to Pegatron’s documents, the annual output is set to go up to 104.9 million items, equivalent to 36,869 tons.
The increased output is about half of the project’s maximum capacity of 202 million items or 97,837 tons, which is slated for the first quarter of 2026, according to its investment certificate.
The project received its first investment certificate in October 2020 and its fifth adjustment in December 2023, raising the total investment to $800 million.
Its output includes computers and accessories, electronic goods, telecommunications products, health tracking devices, and plastic components. A popular item of the project is PlayStation gaming consoles.
According to Hai Phong authorities, Taiwanese businesses have invested over $2 billion in 65 projects in the city.
