PM joins groundbreaking ceremony for Sun Group’s $2 bln resort complex in Phu Quoc
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the VND50 trillion ($2 billion) Hon Thom marine tourism, resort and entertainment complex in Phu Quoc city off the southern province of Kien Giang on Saturday.

The 310-hectare project, invested by real estate giant Sun Group, is designed to accommodate a water park, theme park, aquarium, opera house, and ecological resort.
The project follows a host of developments built by Sun Group in Phu Quoc, known as the “Pearl Island” and one of the country’s most renowned tourist attractions.
Addressing the ceremony, PM Chinh acknowledged the development and achievements of both Phu Quoc and Kien Giang over the years. He urged the local government to accompany businesses in boosting the island city’s economy and ensuring security, defense, and ecological preservation.
Phu Quoc, Vietnam's largest island, spans an area of 593 square kilometers and comprises two wards and seven communes. It is home to over 40 islands.
Currently, the city has 322 investment projects covering a total area of 10,676 hectares. Among these, 52 projects worth VND17.4 trillion ($700 million) are already in operation, while another 78 projects worth VND198.3 trillion ($7.79 billion) are being rolled out.
