Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, in the U.S. on a week-long visit, will speak at the UN General Assembly, attend high level meetings, and participate in a Vietnam-U.S. business forum.

After his arrival in San Francisco Monday (Vietnam time), he is scheduled to have meetings with top technology-innovation businesses including NVIDIA, Meta and Synopsys.

He will also meet with other leading firms including Microsoft and Boeing; visit Nasdaq, where Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has made a debut listing; and join a business promotion event between the two countries.

Chinh will also address the United Nations General Assembly, join summits and high-level meetings of the United Nations related to climate change and pandemic response, and hold bilateral meetings with leaders of other nations and organizations.

He will also attend a signing ceremony of partnerships between Ho Chi Minh City and New York.

During Biden’s visit, the two countries upgraded their bilateral ties to that of a comprehensive strategic partnership. Businesses from Vietnam and the U.S. also signed deals and announced investments worth billions of dollars.

PM Chinh’s visit will follow up on “achievements” of U.S. President Joe Biden’s Vietnam visit just a week ago, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang said last Thursday.

During Biden’s September 10-11 visit, the two countries upgraded the bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Businesses from Vietnam and the U.S. also signed deals and announced investments worth billions of USD.

As of August 20, the U.S. was the 11th-biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with 1,286 valid projects and total registered capital of $11.79 billion, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment. In the year to August 20, U.S. businesses registered to invest $490 million in the country, up 32% year-on-year.

The U.S. was Vietnam’s second-biggest trade partner in the first eight months of this year with a two-way turnover of $71.6 billion, behind China ($103.9 billion), the General Statistics Office (GSO) reported. While China was the biggest import market for Vietnam at $68.1 billion, the U.S. was the biggest export market at $62.3 billion.
