PV Gas receives second LNG delivery for power generation
PV Gas, a subsidiary of state-owned Petrovietnam, received its second load of 70,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at its port in Vietnam’s southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on Thursday.
PV Gas will supply the LNG to Phu My 3 thermal power plant, operated by state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN), for power generation in April-May, PV Gas said. In late March, PV Gas and EVN signed an LNG sale agreement for power production in 2024, aiming for generation of 500 million kWh.

PV Gas took delivery of 70,000 tons of LNG, the first in Vietnam, in July last year.
Last week, Nguyen Quoc Trung, head of the National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC) under EVN, said EVN plans to fire up an LNG power plant in the southeastern region on April 15.
PV Gas had started to offer LNG deliveries for industrial customers via trucks in mid-March.
Under the Power Development Plan VIII (PDP 8), the country will have 23 gas-fired power plants by 2030 with a total capacity of 30,424 MW. They will include 10 projects of 7,900 MW powered by domestic gas, and 13 others of 22,524 MW powered by LNG.
Vietnam currently has no operational LNG-fired power plants. The Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 plants in Dong Nai province, a southern industrial hub, are under construction. They will be supplied with LNG delivered from PV Gas’s Thi Vai terminal. Other projects are under contract negotiations.
