Quang Nam province chairman, vice chairman ousted
Chairman of Quang Nam province in central Vietnam Le Tri Thanh and Vice Chairman Nguyen Hong Quang have been dismissed for their violations.
Their dismissals were approved by the provincial People's Council’s 54 members at an extraordinary meeting on Monday morning.
Three months ago, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reprimanded Thanh and gave a warning to Quang for violations and shortcomings found in the course of their duties.
In November 2023, a series of leaders and former leaders of Quang Nam province were disciplined by the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission. Among them, Thanh was reprimanded while Quang received a warning.
At the Monday meeting, the People's Council also agreed to dismiss Phan Viet Cuong from the position of council chairman for the 2021-2026 term.
Last November, Cuong, who was also Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, was recommended for disciplinary action by the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission. Cuong subsequently offered to retire six months early due to "health reasons", and his request was granted at the start of the year.
According to the Inspection Commission, the Party Committee of Quang Nam provincial People's Committee violated the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations, and showed a lack of responsibility, and lax leadership and direction.
As a result, the provincial People's Committee and many organizations and individuals violated regulations and laws during the fight against Covid-19, breached rules on land management, and committed violations in the implementation of projects/bidding involving the Hanoi-based Advanced International JSC (AIC). Many officials and Party members in the province have already been prosecuted.
“These violations have caused serious consequences and great losses to the state. This has provoked public outrage and affected the reputation of Party organizations and the local administration,” the commission concluded.
