Russia’s Rosatom eyes wind power projects in central Vietnam
Rosatom Renewable Energy, the wind energy division of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom (Rosatom), aims to study and implement wind power projects in the central province of Ha Tinh.
In talks held on Tuesday with Ha Tinh authorities, Evgenii Chivile, general director of NovaWind Vietnam under Rosatom Renewable Energy, said the company was capable of all wind energy tasks, including wind farm management, production of wind turbines, product development and commercial production.
He said Ha Tinh boasts massive potential in wind power development and sought support from provincial authorities to carry out surveys and design projects.
Noting that the province always facilitated business activities, Ha Tinh Vice Chairman Tran Bau Ha asked relevant agencies to collaborate with NovaWind Vietnam in renewable energy development.
He said renewable energy projects should follow the national power development plan VIII (PDP VIII) and projects not listed in the plan should await due amendments.
He also mentioned Ha Tinh’s high wind power potential including wind speeds of six-nine meters per second and a developed power grid network. So far, the province has submitted petitions to add 17 wind power projects of 3,325.6 MW to the PDP VIII, he said.
Since its 2017 inception, NovaWind has built up a portfolio of about 1.7 GW in operational and under-development capacity in Russia.
In June, Rosatom director general A.E.Likhachev had informed Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh that the corporation would boost cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the use of nuclear technology in electricity, healthcare, transportation and other fields including wind power.
The same month, during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Vietnam visit, Rosatom signed a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology on building a nuclear research center, stressing that it was meant for peaceful purposes.
