Shinhan Bank appoints new Vietnam CEO
Shinhan Bank Vietnam has announced the appointment of Kang GewWon as the Korean bank’s new CEO, starting from Monday.
Kang GewWon replaced Lee Taekyung, who was the captain of Shinhan Bank Vietnam for one year.
He joined South Korea's Shinhan Bank in 1995 and has held a variety of senior leadership positions over the course of his 16-year career. Starting to work in Vietnam since 2011, Kang made active contributions to the development of the bank in Vietnam with the roles of General Manager of Bac Ninh Branch and Deputy General Director in charge of Corporate Banking.
According to the creditor, the new CEO will direct its development in accordance with the "Friendly bank" strategy, following the bank's three core focuses including “Customer-friendly", "Friendly innovation" and "Friendly working environment".
Kang believed that in a challenging business environment like Vietnam, flexible adaptation is an important factor to create sustainable value and success for the bank and its customers. "Customer needs are constantly changing, and Shinhan Bank Vietnam should actively innovate to fulfill varied needs," he stated in a release.
In the long run, Kang GewWon will continue to implement flexible business strategies tailored to the Vietnamese market, as well as develop a modern and user-friendly digital bank, the lender added.
Shinhan Bank Vietnam Ltd. is a subsidiary of Shinhan Bank Korea, an affiliate of Shinhan Financial Group (SFG). SFG’s main business lines are banking, consumer finance, insurance, asset management and brokerage.
Shinhan Bank first opened its representative office in Ho Chi Minh City in 1993. In 2020, Shinhan Bank in Vietnam was granted “Best foreign retail bank Vietnam 2020” by International Business Magazine, as well as "HR Asia Best Companies To Work For in Asia" for the second time by HR Asia publication.
