South Korean East-West Power plans 30 MW waste-to-power plant in northern Vietnam
South Korea’s Korea East-West Power Co. Ltd. hopes to build a 10-30 MW waste-to-power plant in Vinh Phuc province that will incinerate 200-600 tons of waste daily.
Young-chan Lee, vice president of the Korean firm, mentioned the plan at a Wednesday meeting with Vinh Phuc Vice Chairman Vu Chi Giang. The waste-to-power plant would be the first phase of a larger project that can start in 2026, he said.
The second phase, starting in 2030, will feature a biogass plant that can process 100-200 tons of waste every day, he added.
Besides processing waste and generating power, the plant will also make construction materials for backfilling, produce soil for cultivation and treat wastewater, the executive said.
Giang welcomed the project saying the province looked to promote industrial development and green growth for sustainable growth. He noted that the province had two waste processing factories at present and expects this to double next year.
He directed the provincial Department of Planning and Investment to review project details, including the estimated investment of $40-120 million, the area of 15-20 hectares, and the technology it would deploy. He also tasked the Department of Construction with recommending locations for the project.
