Southern Vietnam province fines Korea-invested Kbec Vina for wastewater dumping yet again
South Korea-invested Kbec Vina, the largest household and industrial waste treatment company in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, has been fined VND1.2 billion ($47,291) for violations.
The firm was detected to have committed the violation in late May. In a decision issued early July, Ba Ria-Vung Tau authorities said some indexes in the wastewater disposed by Kbec Vina exceeded the allowed limit by 10 times.
On measures to restore the environment, provincial authorities said it was impossible to determine the severity of the violations because the pollutants had partly been washed away by the rain. They also said that the firm does not have to take any further steps to remedy the situation.
This is the third fine imposed on Kbec Vina for similar violations since 2023, and the fines have totalled VND4 billion ($157,375) so far.
In March 2023, in addition to the fines, Kbec Vina was suspended from wastewater disposal activities for 4.5 months. In September 2023, the firm was given another financial penalty.
