Sovico Group to study Metro Line 4 project in HCMC
Vietnam’s private conglomerate Sovico Group, controlled by billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, will study the Metro Line 4 project, which stretches 47.3 km from Hoc Mon to Nha Be, Ho Chi Minh City.
An MoU to this effect was signed by the HCMC People’s Committee and Sovico within the framework of the first Vietnam Private Economic Landscape Program 2025 (ViPEL 2025) on Friday.

In June 2025, Sovico sent a document to the municipal People’s Committee, asking for permission to study Metro Line 4.
The company highlighted its experience, investment capacity, and strong financial standing, expressing eagerness to contribute to urban infrastructure development and to the broader socio-economic growth of the city, particularly its southern part.
According to its proposal, of the 47.3 km line, more than 25 km will run underground and nearly 22 km elevated, with 37 stations and two depots in Dong Thanh and Hiep Phuoc.
The line will stretch from Dong Thanh (Hoc Mon) through Thanh Xuan, Ha Huy Giap, Nguyen Oanh, Nguyen Kiem, Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s T1 and T2 terminals, Truong Son, Nguyen Van Troi, Nhieu Loc Canal, Hai Ba Trung, Pasteur, Ben Thanh, Nguyen Thai Hoc and Ton Dan to Nguyen Huu Tho, then continue along a newly constructed route to the Hiep Phuoc Urban Area in Nha Be.
Following the HCMC People’s Committee approval to proceed with the study, the company will establish a new legal entity to carry out the project.
Sovico pledged to plan resources and personnel, working with partners, construction contractors, and operations and management units, ready to invest in construction and bring the project into service according to the city’s schedule.
HCMC aims to simultaneously break ground on nine urban metro lines by the end of 2027, with a total investment of $44 billion.
The plan covers seven lines in the former HCMC, including Metro Line 4, and two others in the former Binh Duong province.
HCMC was recently merged with neighboring Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces to form the new mega HCMC.
Sovico, controlled by billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, chairwoman of low-cost airline VietJet Air, posted a pre-tax profit of VND657 billion ($24.94 million) in the first half of 2025, up 20.3% year-on-year.
Its owners’ equity stood at nearly VND70 trillion ($2.66 billion) and total assets at about VND230 trillion ($8.73 billion) as of June 30.
