Sumitomo, Vingroup ink green transport development pact
Japanese keiretsu Sumitomo and taxi operator GSM JSC uder Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup inked a green transportation development agreement on Tuesday to foster carbon neutrality in Vietnam.
This will be done by leveraging GSM's customer base, electric vehicle (EV) maintenance, and charging infrastructure, along with expertise in mobility business.

Sumitomo said it will continue to collaborate with partners to develop businesses that respond to the evolving demands of the modern era, leveraging experience and expertise to contribute to the automotive industry and society at large.
Since the Japanese keiretsu aims to become carbon neutral in all its business activities by 2050, it has actively promoted decarbonization and energy transition across Asia, including Vietnam, via the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) and other initiatives.
According to taxi operator GSM, it has deployed VinFast Electric Vehicles (EVs) to serve 40 million passengers in Vietnam so far. In doing so, it has recorded 200 million kilometers of green transportation that has reduced 44,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
