Taiwan PCB Techvest (TPT), which makes and supplies double-sided and multi-layer printed circuit boards, plans to build its second manufacturing facility in Vietnam while more Taiwanese companies are shifting production to the country from China.

TPT has so far invested $30 million in Vietnam, operating its first printed circuit board (PCB) plant in the Thanh Liem Industrial Park in Thanh Liem district, Ha Nam province in northern Vietnam.

The factory on a site of more than 8.4 hectares, licensed in November last year, is designed to produce 810,000 products annually to supply PCBs for optoelectronics and notebook applications, according to Ha Nam data. Its first phase is set for completion this June, and the second phase is poised to complete by June 2026.

The first facility is expected to create annual revenue of $39 million when completed, according to Ha Nam province’s industrial park management board.

Taiwanese leading tech magazine Digitimes quoted industry sources to say Tuesday that TPT is mulling over building its second plant in Vietnam. It added that the Taiwanese PCB supply chain is flocking to Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.

Like TPT, Taiwanese PCB maker Tripod Technology is investing in Vietnam. In late April, Tripod announced the completion of a deal to buy FICT Vietnam Company, which makes circuit boards and assembles products for Japanese company Fujitsu. The transaction is expected to finalize in the near future.

Until that time, tech giant Fujitsu had invested $200 million in FICT, located in Dong Nai province bordering Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s southern economic hub.

Earlier this May, Nam Dinh province in northern Vietnam granted an investment certificate for Apple supplier Quanta Computer to build a $120 million factory in Nam Dinh, the first Vietnam plant of the Taiwanese electronics maker and its ninth worldwide. The plant, located in My Thuan Industrial Park, is set to manufacture 1.3 million laptop and desktop computers in 2024, 2.6 million in 2025, 3.6 million in 2026, four million in 2027, and 4.5 million in 2028.

At present, several major US manufacturers are manufacturing key products in Vietnam. Apple is manufacturing iPads and AirPods in northern Vietnam. Microsoft started to ship Xbox gaming consoles from HCMC last year.
