Thai energy firm Ratch aims to run 12-MW Vietnam hydropower plant next quarter
Ratch Group, a major energy company in Thailand, aims to achieve a commercial operation date (COD) for its Song Giang 1 hydropower plant in Vietnam’s central coastal province of Khanh Hoa from the next quarter.
In a review for the first two quarters of this year, Ratch said the project reached 62% completion as of July. The facility utilizes run-of-river technology with a peak storage of five hours.

The power plant’s installed capacity is 12 MW. As Ratch holds a 49% stake in the power plant via Nexif Ratch Energy Investments Pte. Ltd., it is equivalent to a capacity of 5.55 MW to Ratch’s portfolio.
The power factory has a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
Ratch noted that its energy portfolio in Vietnam reached 266.19 MW as of end-Q2/2024. The biggest portion of 136.71 MW belongs to Thang Long coal-fired power plant in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
The firm added that the 80-MW Nexif Energy Ben Tre Wind Farm in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre can enter operation next year. The project represents an equity capacity of 59.6 MW to Ratch and has a 20-year PPA with EVN.
In October 2023, Ratch acquired a 51% stake in the 29.7-MW Thanh Phong Wind Power Plant project in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre.
Ratch said its indirect subsidiary RH International (Singapore) Corporation Pte. Ltd. has purchased shares of a business to invest in the wind power project. With the purchase, Ratch holds an indirect stake of 51% in the power project, also called Ecowin.
