Thailand's Central Retail plans to build a mall in Dong Thap, an agriculture hub in the Mekong Delta, its CEO Olivier Langlet said at a meeting with provincial leaders on Monday.

The province recommended six locations for the project. Dong Thap Chairman Pham Thien Nghia introduced Dong Thap’s strengths in agriculture, noting that many of its products were already sold at Central Retail’s outlets in the country.

He proposed that the retailer builds an agricultural supply chain in the province, expanding the presence of Dong Thap products in its outlet network.

Langlet agreed that the project has good prospects given the province’s agricultural strengths.

Central Retail had announced in July that it plans to invest 30 billion baht ($828 million) in Vietnam until 2026 to expand its operation. The same month, the company launched a new outlet brand, Tops Market, in Ho Chi Minh City.

Central Retail Vietnam now operates 340 stores in 40 localities, serving more than 390,000 customers a day. The total floor area of its retail stores in Vietnam exceeds one million square meters.
