Under the new policy, Thailand is now aiming to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 instead of the previous target of 2065.
According to Atthapol, a key component of this policy is Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), which has been submitted to the Thai National Assembly.
Carbon capture and storage will be included in the country's power development plan. This process will require about 10 years due to the need for vast offshore areas. As this is a new concept, regulations must be adjusted accordingly, and coordination among ministries will be necessary.
He added that Thailand is currently working with Japan to deploy a vessel to survey offshore areas with the potential to store up to 7 billion tons of carbon annually.
The survey is expected to be completed within the next four months.
