Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse, during their official visit to Sweden and Estonia earlier this month, presented Vietnamese book collections comprising hundreds of titles published by Vietnam Education Publishing House (VEPH) to the Vietnamese communities there.

“This meaningful gift carries the values of knowledge and culture, helping to spread the love of the Vietnamese language and nurture national identity among the younger generations living abroad,” stated the publisher.

In Sweden, the Prime Minister and his spouse presented the Vietnamese Book Collection to the Vietnamese community. The collection includes more than 700 carefully selected books, spanning various genres such as literature, children’s books, and stories.

The books reflect the spirit of patriotism, cultural identity, and the beauty of the Vietnamese language. The collection is not only a source of knowledge but also a bridge of affection connecting the homeland with overseas Vietnamese, especially the younger generation growing up in multicultural environments.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Chinh expressed hope that the book collection would inspire children and members of the Vietnamese community in Sweden to learn Vietnamese, becoming a part of the ongoing effort to preserve the language abroad.

Earlier, during his visit to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, the Prime Minister and his spouse also presented several Vietnamese books published by the VEPH to representatives of the Vietnamese community there.

Each book is a window to knowledge and a strong bond between overseas Vietnamese and their cultural roots.

The Vietnamese Book Collection initiative, co-developed by the VEPH and the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, is an important project aimed at promoting a reading culture and enhancing Vietnamese language proficiency in overseas Vietnamese communities.

Since 2023, the Vietnamese Book Collections have been gifted to Vietnamese communities in several countries and territories, including Fukuoka (Japan), Budapest (Hungary), Taiwan (China), Paris (France), New Caledonia (France), Prague and Brno (Czech Republic), Melbourne (Australia), Vientiane (Laos), Minsk (Belarus), and most recently, Stockholm (Sweden).

Each collection is curated with diverse types of books and materials to meet the varied needs of the overseas Vietnamese community.

In 2024, the Vietnamese Book Collection initiative was awarded second prize at the 10th National External Information Service Awards.

The Vietnam Education Publishing House hopes the book collections will continue to support teachers and students in learning and teaching Vietnamese, contributing to the preservation of national identity and cultural heritage among overseas Vietnamese.
