Ericsson should focus on 6G research, build database for AI in Vietnam: Prime Minister
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has suggested Ericsson's cooperation with Vietnam should focus on piloting innovation initiatives, 6G research, and building a database for AI in the country.
Chinh made the suggestion at a meeting on Friday with Borje Ekholm, Ericsson's president and CEO, within the framework of his official visit to Sweden.
Ericsson is one of the world’s leading telecom groups, especially in 5G infrastructure. Making its presence in Vietnam in 1993, the giant has provided equipment and solutions for major telecom operators like Viettel, VNPT, and MobiFone across all generations of mobile technology, including GSM, WCDMA, LTE, and 5G.

The Prime Minister said he appreciates Ericsson’s strong support and effective cooperation in developing digital infrastructure. "Vietnam wants to strengthen its cooperation with Ericsson in the new phase of development," he noted
"The country is undergoing a profound transformation in terms of institutional frameworks, mindset, and vision, particularly in advancing science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and private economic development.
"As institutional bottlenecks have been resolved, Ericsson should expand its investment and cooperation in Vietnam in a stronger, deeper, more comprehensive, and effective manner," Chinh added.
In response, Ekholm said that Ericsson wants to continue cooperating with Vietnam in deploying 5G technolog, accelerating digital transformation, and promoting the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
He noted that Vietnam is among the first countries to successfully commercialize 5G, backed by highly capable telecom and technology enterprises.
Ericsson will continue to partner with Vietnamese companies in talent exchange and 5G-related service deployment, and is willing to collaborate on 6G initiatives in the future, Ekholm added.
