Vietnam Electricity likely to operate first turbine of 1,403 MW coal-fired power plant in Sept
State utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) should put turbine No.1 of the 1,403 MW Quang Trach 1 coal-fired power plant into operation by September 2.
The schedule aims to commemorate the country's 80th anniversary (September 2, 1945-2025), according to authorities of Quang Binh province, home to the project. Quang Binh Chairman Tran Phong made the suggestion at a recent ceremony to push the project's progress.

Quang Trach 1 coal-fired power plant is part of the 2,903 MW Quang Trach Power Center project in the central coastal province. The power factory has two turbines and a design output of 9.1 billion kWh annually, utilizing ultrasupercriticial technology to meet environmental requirements.
For 2025, Quang Trach 1 coal-fired power plant will build dykes, a port for coal import and supporting infrastructure, and a coal delivery system. EVN aims to put turbine No. 2 into operation in 2026.
The $1.61 billion project started construction in Q4/2021. A consortium of Japan's Mitsubishi, South Korea's Hyundai, and Vietnam's builder CC1 is the project contractor.
Quang Trach Power Center project also features a power center and an LNG-fired power plant.
