The Southeast Asian nation scored 78.49 points in The World's Best Countries For Quality of Life 2021 index, jumping 39 notches, a significant increase from its position of 101 the year before.

Finland has been named the number one country in the world index, while Denmark and Norway placed second and third, respectively. Japan is the only Asian country to make the top 10. Singapore ranked 19th.

Of the Southeast Asian region, Singapore was placed the highest. Vietnam ranked seventh within the region.

The rankings measure global perceptions of 165 countries and territories contributing most to the world’s GDP. More than 258,000 people around the world are asked to evaluate the countries based on 10 metrics ranging from stability to transparency to equality.

Affordability, economic stability, family-friendly, a good job market, income equality, political neutrality and stability, safety, cultural influence, well-developed public education system, and well-developed public health system were graded on a 100-point scale for each attribute.

Vietnam was in 2021 placed 40th among 78 countries and territories in the Best Countries 2021 report by U.S. News & World Report, an American media company publishing news, consumer advice, rankings, and analysis.

Attributes were grouped into 10 subrankings that rolled into the Best Countries ranking: adventure, agility, cultural influence, entrepreneurship, heritage, movers, open for business, power, social purpose and quality of life.

“State-owned enterprises and agriculture, which once monopolized the economy, are losing prominence as the nation works to achieve sustainable development through more open trade and industry, including food processing, garment manufacturing, machine-building and mining,” the report wrote.
