Vietnamese people rank ninth globally in the latest Worldwide IQ Test by Finnish company Wiqtcom Inc. and is the only Southeast Asian nation to make the top 10.

The findings for 2022 released recently show that Vietnam came in ninth place out of about 100 countries and territories, with an average IQ of 109.37.

Taiwan came first with an average IQ of 116.07, followed by Japan (112.69), Hungary, South Korea, Iran, Hong Kong, Serbia, Italy, and Vietnam. Finland rounds out the top 10 with 109.02. In 2019 when the test debuted, the figure for Taiwan was 106.49, trailing Japan in first place.

The reliability of the score is based on the number of tests taken in the localities. Vietnam has the second lowest "standard deviation" (12.49), following only Japan (12.16). This means that the results for the Southeast Asian nation are likely to be more accurate.

"Many more tests have been taken in Japan and the score is, therefore, more representative of the whole population. This means that the results for Japan are likely to be more accurate and highly convincing," Wiqtcom Inc. stated in a release.

However, the Finnish company noted that the reliability of the score for Taiwan is weakened due to the lower number of tests taken in the territory.

The IQ (intelligence quotient) test is designed to measure a person's cognitive abilities, including problem-solving skills, abstract thinking, and general knowledge, Wiqtcom Inc. stated on its website.

The company did not disclose how many people were surveyed in the surveyed countries and territories.
