Vietnam inflation up 3.69% in 11 months

Vietnam's consumer price index (CPI), an indicator of inflation, went up 0.13% from October to November and 3.69% in the first 11 months of this year.

The 11-month figure is far below the government's target of 4-4.5% this year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said in its monthly report.

November CPI was up 2.65% from December 2023 and 2.77% from November 2023, the GSO said.

The sector with highest CPI in November was housing and utilities (0.87%) due to the hikes of electricity and gas prices, and house rent.

Those with lower CPI were transportation (down 0.07%), food and restaurant services (down 0.22%), and telecommunications-postal services (down 0.3%).

Other sectors like education, home appliances, beverages and tobacco, entertainment, healthcare-medicine, and apparel-textiles recorded rises of between 0.29% and 0.05%.

In November alone, retail sales and services revenue reached VND562 trillion ($22.14 billion), up 8.8% year-on-year. For the first 11 months, the figure was VND5,822.3 trillion ($229.34 billion), up 8.8% year-on-year.

The January-November figure included VND4,487.3 trillion ($176.75 billion) from retail sales, up 8.1% year-on-year; VND669 trillion from accommodation and restaurant services, up 13%; VND57.5 trillion from tourism, up 17.3%; and other sectors with VND608.5 trillion, up 9.1%.
