Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet to launch HCMC-Auckland flights in Sept
Vietjet Air on Wednesday announced its inaugural air service between Vietnam and New Zealand, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Auckland - the two countries’ key tourism and economic hubs.
The HCMC-Auckland service is scheduled to commence in September 2025, initially offering four return flights per week, operated by Vietjet’s modern fleet.
The event was attended by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, along with senior officials and business leaders from both nations.
This new service marks a key milestone in Vietnam-New Zealand bilateral relations as the two nations have officially elevated their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership and look forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon remarked that the new route to New Zealand would be a critical enabler of more growth and bring the two peoples closer together. "This enables lots of opportunities across the board, not just in tourism but also in trade and also in education.”
Auckland is one of the most liveable and beloved cities in New Zealand, known for its peaceful environment, fresh air, vibrant lifestyle, and stunning coastal landscapes.
HCMC is Vietnam’s leading tourism and economic center, renowned for its dynamic atmosphere, modern vibrancy, and thriving culinary scene.
Vietjet’s new route is a key part of the budget airline’s broader strategy to expand its flight network across Vietnam, as well as major destinations in Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea, India, Kazakhstan, and beyond.
