The Government Office announced Tuesday that the Prime Minister has agreed to the labor ministry proposal on a nine-day Tet break, including five workdays and four weekend days.

The first day of the holiday will coincide with the 26th day of the last lunar month, while the last day will fall on the 5th day of the first month of the lunar new year.

After nearly 10 years of having only 1-2 days off just before Tet, this year, the pre-Tet break will be extended by four days. The early holiday will allow people to better arrange their schedules for home return, shopping, and also reduce traffic congestion in the final days of the year.

Tet is the largest Vietnamese traditional celebration since ancient times. It is not only a spiritual event that marks the change from one year to the next, but also embodies the national culture, reflecting the values and beliefs of Vietnamese people.

Vietnamese people believe that Tet marks the beginning of a new year of good health, happiness and prosperity, and a farewell to the old year.

Other public holidays in 2025 include the Calendar New Year on January 1, the Hung Kings Commemoration on April 5-7, the Reunification Day-Labor Day from April 30 to May 4, and the National Day from August 30 to September 2.

The Prime Minister has instructed the labor ministry to inform public non-business units, political organizations, socio-political organizations, businesses, and workers about the upcoming holidays.

The 2019 Labor Code states that based on actual conditions each year, the Prime Minister will determine specific days off for the Lunar New Year and other national holidays. If official holidays fall on weekends, adjustments to working days or swaps will be made to extend the holiday period.
