Vietnam's PTSC, Norway's DNV collaborate on offshore wind power design
Vietnam's PTSC Mechanical and Construction Company (PTSC M&C) and Norway's DNV, a provider of digital solutions, have signed a memorandum of understanding for offshore wind power design.
In an announcement on Tuesday, DNV said the software products included in the MoU include Sesam for offshore wind turbine foundation design, and WindFarmer for design, energy production and cost-benefit analysis.
DNV has worked with wind power firms in mainland China, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. It is also focusing on Vietnam and Australia as areas with high potential for wind energy, including fixed and floating offshore structures, according to the announcement.
“DNV’s expertise will mitigate any risks and shorten the development period of offshore wind projects. This MoU is the start of an important collaboration, through which we will be able to share our knowledge and support Vietnam's energy transition,” said Hagsung Kim, Asia's regional manager for digital solutions at DNV.
Besides lowering greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring energy security, Vietnam's emerging offshore wind power industry has substantial prospects for socioeconomic development, developing supply chains, accelerating the growth of support industries, and providing jobs for local employees, said Tran Ky Phuc, general director at the Institute of Energy.
PTSC M&C, an arm of Petrovietnam Technical Services Corp (PTSC), is a leading engineering, procurement, construction and installation contractor for the upstream, downstream and renewable energy sectors. PTSC is a subsidiary of state-owned Petrovietnam.
In November 2022, PTSC M&C kicked off the construction of offshore substations Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3 at the 1,044-MW Hai Long Offshore Wind Project in the Taiwan Strait.
Last month, PTSC, signed a contract to build offshore wind farm foundations for Orsted, becoming the first Vietnamese business to receive a mass order for offshore wind power equipment.
Vietnam’s National Power Development Plan for 2021-2030 (PDP VIII), which was approved last month, features 6,000 MW of offshore wind power.
