Viettel aims to inaugurate a VND3.3 trillion ($130 million) logistics park next month in Lang Son, Vietnam's northern mountainous province bordering China.

During a meeting with the provincial People’s Committee on Thursday, Hoang Trung Thanh, general director of Viettel Post, the delivery arm of the Vietnamese tech giant, revealed details about the Lang Son Viettel logistics park.

On November 8, 2024, Viettel signed a contract to lease the entire infrastructure of the Lang Son cargo transit area project from Lang Son Transshipment Center JSC.

It is located in the Dong Dang-Lang Son Border Economic Zone and has been internally designated as the Lang Son Viettel logistics park.

Spanning 143.7 hectares in Phu Xa commune, Cao Loc district, the logistics park will feature multiple components, including an inter-sectoral housing area, a customs clearance zone, a display site, a farm produce trading center, warehouses, a parking lot, an advanced logistics service area, and other supporting infrastructure.

It aims to provide professional, integrated logistics services designed to leverage border gate infrastructure.

The project seeks to enhance import-export efficiency, accelerate customs clearance processes, and reduce associated costs. With its functions, it is expected to contribute to helping Lang Son become a strategic logistics hub connecting Southeast Asia and China, Thanh noted.

He also urged the local government to address hurdles to ensure the park can open on December 11 as scheduled.

On this occasion, Thanh expressed Viettel’s interest in participating in the province’s smart border pilot plan.

According to a report by SSI Securities, Vietnam’s annual imports from China total $110 billion, while exports amount to $61 billion. At the Huu Nghi-Lang Son border gate, the largest road crossing between Vietnam and China, approximately 1,300 containers pass through daily, equivalent to 500,000 TEUs.

Trump’s tariff policies pose 'minimal' risk to derail Vietnam’s growing economy

Vietnam was Asia’s biggest beneficiary of the first Trump administration. While Trump 2.0 will probably not be as beneficial to Vietnam as Trump 1.0 was, there is "minimal risk" that Trump’s tariff policies will derail Vietnam’s growing economy – in sharp contrast to claims made in some articles published since his election, writes Michael Kokalari, chief economist at VinaCapital.
