VinaCapital Group’s technology investment arm VinaCapital Ventures is investing $1 million in Koina, a Vietnam-based data driven farm-to-business agriculture technology platform, as part of a seed extension fundraising round.

“With the new investment, Koina will expand to more sales channels creating more volume to offtake from farms. We are also investing more in technologies to better manage quality and increase added value for Vietnam’s agriculture products,” said Nguyen Tran Thi, co-founder and chairman of Koina.

Hoang Duc Trung, partner at VinaCapital Ventures, explained: “Koina’s mission is to be an innovative hub in Vietnam’s agriculture sector. With the Vietnamese government promoting green, environmentally friendly agriculture, we hope to play a part in improving the supply chain and Vietnamese farmers’ lives.”

Koina is currently working with Vietnamese farmers and connecting them directly with financial institutions, input suppliers, and commercial retailers. Its “Farmer Platform” aims to help communities with financing and guide farmers on good agricultural practices.

Koina Investment Group was founded in 2021 by Thi, co-founder and CEO of Vietnamese goods delivery service provider Giao Hang Nhanh; Khoa Luu, former head of regional business automation for Grab in Vietnam; and Phu Vo, founding member of coffee and tea chain The Coffee House.

VinaCapital Ventures is seeded by Ho Chi Minh City-based VinaCapital, a leading investment group in Vietnam with over $3.7 billion in assets under management as of the end of 2021. The venture capital platform is focused on building up technology companies and incorporating them into a full digital ecosystem.

The investment vehicle plans to launch its second $100 million fund in 2023, focusing on providing growth capital.
